Letter from Tom Burke
Dear Friends:
My name is Tom Burke and I am a candidate for the office of retired Magisterial District Judge James E. McMahon, which covers the communities of Sharon and Sharpsville of which I am a lifetime resident.

I believe I am the most qualified candidate for District Judge. My education, experience, integrity and temperament qualify me for this position. After honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, I worked as a correctional officer at the Mercer County Prison, achieving the rank of Sergeant. I then worked as a Police Officer with the City of Sharon for 14 years, rising to the rank of Chief of Police. As a patrol officer, juvenile officer, detective, captain and chief, I learned a great deal about the strengths and weaknesses of our communities, that there are often many sides to a problem that solutions require the input of people in different fields of work, but ultimately a decision must be made by you. Those attributes are also a must for a judge to possess in rendering a fair and impartial decision.

Throughout my career as a law enforcement officer, I have continued to further my education. I graduated from the 215th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Mercyhurst Police Academy, and will graduate this year from Butler County Community College with a degree in Police Science.

During my law enforcement career I have been intimately involved with the criminal justice system including handling hundreds of cases at the District Judge level. Most important, I have experience in problem solving and conflict resolution in both criminal and civil matters. I look forward to transferring this experience from advocate to Judge to provide justice to all citizens.

Over the past several years, I have worked as the Director of Safety and Security at Duferco Farrell Corporation and as a part-time police officer. I am also involved in my community through my membership in St. Stanislaus Church, a volunteer coach and umpire for Sharon Little League, volunteer coach for girl’s softball, statistician for the Sharon High Football team, and board member at the Sharon American Legion Post 299. I must give thanks for the love and support of my wife Gina, and my three children, Thomas “TJ”, Casey and Aiden.

On May 19, 2009 I would appreciate your vote.

Sincerely,
Thomas M. Burke
